alright, big post coming up. um wed we had a thanksgiving lunch at work which was pretty good; and they let us out at 4.30 instead of 5. that's really all there is to say about that. julie and i went home wed night and pop gave me the networking switch i had asked for. and he got me a tv card for my computer. thurs morning juile and i made her veggieloaf thing (which was pretty good really) and then we went on to her parent's place. they had decided to not draw names this year for xmas gifts which was a little surprising, but i don't really care. after her side of the family we went down to see my granny tobitt; oddly not many ppl had come down her way this year for thanksgiving. some of the grandchildren are more out on their own now and that cut some of it out, but there were still some other usuals who hadn't come by. had a good time there though. fri morning julie slept in rather late so i talked with pop some that morning and when she finally arose we ate some breakfast and continued to just lay around for a bit. then julie got the wild hair to go and try to get this $30 dvd player from wal-mart. i was pretty sure they'd be sold out by then, but we had nothing else to do really. so we went over and sure enough they were all gone; we fiddled around in there for a bit, looking at xmas decorations and stuff like that. then we went over to autozone and i got her some wipers for her honda. when we got back, pop told me that doug had called for me. so i give him a ring and an hour later he was down at our place. we ate lunch at the tap and talked for a good bit, ran over to potter's to get him a dowel, then ran up to cookeville to get him some shoelaces of all things. but the shop he wanted to go to was closed, so we ran over to compact discovery for a bit, dropped in eckerd's to look at candy, and then made a quick juant to save a lot so doug could get some bubba (and i got some diet dr. pop). was a little surprised to see that bubba (and all it's products) had had a facelift in terms of the box/logo. i like the old way better; go figure. um, it was kinda snowing at this point, so we came back home and rented gangs of new york and american psycho 2. what doug posted in his journal pretty much sums up my feelings; after watching gangs of new york, i don't really see what all the commotion was about. um, we watched some of a bond marathon after the movies, then doug went on home. it was good to have some time with him like that. um, saturday julie and i stayed around the house a bit for the morning, and then we left out at 9.30 so i could get my haircut. we were hoping to go shopping with my parents someplace after that, but mom was feeling under the weather and didn't want to get out really. so julie and i shopped around cookeville for a bit, ate at the tap in cookeville for lunch (*yea* for variety) and came back home. pop had tried to talk mom into going shopping in crossville when we got back, but she still didn't feel so hot. and shopping for cars was mentioned during this also. oh, thurs night on the way back from granny's pop and i stopped at a place in mcminnville that had 2 subaru wagons. neither of them fit the bill exactly for one reason or another; cost being the biggest one. so i ask pop if he'd like to just go on into crossville and shop around for cars. so he and i go on up there, and i was really glad to spend time with him like that. i think i've mentioned recently (or maybe not) how i use to riding around with him years ago doing stuff like this and it really makes me feel good/childish to do things like that with him again. so anyway we're driving all over and talking about stuff and making jokes and we finally run across a subaru for sale. it was a white 94 wagon, all wheel drive. couple of dings, inside looked used, but nothing ripped or cracked. stick shift thank heavens, but it had 180k miles. i figured pop would stop looking at that point, but the guy came out and pop talked to him a bit and asked what he'd take for it. they say 1500. pop says how about 1200. the guy wavers a bit and says 1300. (gee how surprising). we kinda nod and i knew that me and pop needed to talk (and i needed to call julie before any decisin was made). so we kinda let him know we'll be getting back with him, and he says 'ok, 1200'. heh, sucker. so to cut out some detail here, we get the car. oh, but upon test driving it we find out the front right axle is shot. but that'll be about $100 to fix. we're driving back through town and pop stops at little ceaser's there to get some supper and we talk some about some stuff to check on the car and to have done with it. and..i mention this little part cause i think it'll be something i remember for a very long time. or at least i hope i do. it was just one of those moments that seemed classic even while it was happening. it was just so great to be there with my pop then, and the slightly cold area we were sitting in while waiting on the pizza to get done, and the football game that was playing a bit too loudly on the tv. but anyway, we drive it on home and show it to the ladies. as best as we can in the total dark. sunday we didn't do much again, i plugged in the tv card in pops computer (at his behest) to make sure it worked before i got home; took a little while to get it set up as the drivers..well not the drivers, but the install program/script is rather cruddy and kept erroring out. but it got to working and it's rather cool. after that we got a little lunch and started gathering everything up to take on home. we said our goodbyes and got back home without incident. got my switch hooked up, and the tv card installed and wired up.
going back to work this morning was very very hard. i've always said that 3 and 4 day weekends always just makes going back that much more difficult.
seems like there were a few other small things i'd wanted to log down. i had some great sweet tater pie. oh, and mayfield makes this sno-cream ice cream that's just like real snow cream. oh, it's so good.
