this is the post i put on the hippie commune, so it's context may be a bit different, but i don't feel like retyping the whole thing:
a few weeks ago i noticed i didn't get one of my unemployment checks. figured it got lost in the mail or something, so i've been working with the employment office to try and track it down or just reissue the thing.
a few mins ago i get a call from officer preston of the goodlettesville police dept. he asks if my car has been broken into recently. i tell him no and have a shiver run down my back from thinking of someone hurting my baby bimmer. he thens asks if i know these two ppl and then runs their names by me. i don't know them. he thens asks something along the line of 'have you had any mail go missing recently.' i told him i'd had an unemployment check that i never got a few weeks back. he then tells me that he's got my check with him. apparently the two cats that he gave me the names of are car burglers. they were caught tonight in rivergate trying to break into two cars there. one of them had my check, with my name forged on it, in his pocket. the officer then goes on to get some personal info from me, and we both kinda ask each other how he got my check. i ask him if he can tell me round-about where these cats live. he looks it up and one of them lives(ed) in my apt complex. how comforting. i then ask him if he can tell me where these two guys are now, and what kind of sentencing they face since i'd feel better knowing this potzer isn't coming back home tomorrow. he said they're down in metro jail now, and face quite a number of charges.
i called the unemployment office this morning, and they say they've already stopped payment on the check, there's no need to even go get the thing. which is kinda nice cause driving to rivergate sucks. they also told me they should be reissuing the check today or tomorrow.
julie is suppose to be coming over today and we're gonna hopefully hammer out most of the honeymoon details so i can start making calls and reservations, and we're gonna try and register for a bunch of shit too.
